Ravens nesting at Bathurst; mallards; encampment gone; bridge mended
Girl guides take a tour of ravine
Ravens back at Bathurst St bridge
I recently met a photographer, Clayton Gladish, in the park. I told him about the ravens and asked him to send me any photos he took. This is what he sent me:
There are 3 birds visible: birders, what do you think? You can see the edge of the nest.
Mallards
While on the topic of birds, the mallards have been seen all over the park. Phil Aber sent me this photo:
I am always glad to receive photos and will credit the photographer if I use them.
Encampment gone
I recently reported this encampment near the Heath St entrance to the acting park supervisor, Jeffrey Moore. Today 6th May I guided 2 Parks guys to the site:
Later in the day, the encampment was gone: quick action indeed!
Bridge mended
On our Cleanup Day with Councillor Josh Matlow on Friday 24th April, I noted that the wooden bridge near the exit to Suydam Park and Spadina was broken:
This could have resulted in a nasty accident, if someone had put their foot down the hole. I reported it to Jeff, and again quick action resulted. By early in the following week, the bridge was repaired:
In fact, the Parks guys replaced 5 of the planks while they were at it.
Given these two examples, you have to say, “sometimes the system works”.
Girl Guides tour the ravine
On the evening of 5th May, I gave a tour of the ravine to the Toronto 68th Girl Guides unit. This is the group in the cattail wetland at about 8 o’clock:
I was hard put to it to answer all their questions! They ate an enormous amount of garlic mustard. You can see the girl in the front is holding some of it. I really enjoy these outings, as it gives me a chance to engage with an age group I would not otherwise meet.
Guided nature walk with Marilyn MacKellar
This Sunday 10th May, Marilyn will lead a guided nature walk, starting at 2 pm from Heath St. I hope to see some of you there!
John
